Coinciding with April’s Teapot Tuesday, the launch of the Red Teapot publication – which will be both a document of October’s Red Teapot Day and (hopefully) a provocation to further action – will be at Theatre Absolute’s Shop Front Theatre, City Arcade, Coventry on TUESDAY 6TH APRIL 2010 from 2pm.

The publication includes a short story by Clare Duffy ‘A play written on a hundred t.shirts’ . Clare’s story/response to I Am Active can be read here http://www.redteapot.co.uk/Red-Teapot-Day/

Please come along to debate with the RTD artists on our favourite topics (Critical Debate, Value, Networks & Spaces to make and show work) over a drink and some cake and collect your copy of the hot-off-the-press-tome in person.

I strongly believe in showing not telling an audience anything and am well aware that I can’t always control how they will respond to the work. While my work might ultimately aim to change how people feel I would not choose to describe myself as an artist activist. Therefore this project interested me because it allowed me to investigate and test what the label artist activist might mean today.

Throughout this process two sentences have continued to resonate with me:

Words make things happen. How do spaces change words?

There is a long tradition of individuals using words on t shirts to bring about change. I AM ACTIVE is in part a response to that tradition.
